GE has been working on the new design of a wind turbine more efficient, 25% more efficient in fact. Instead of the larger turbine to generate more energy as other manufacturers have done, GE is designing longer blades and a more efficient drivetrain.
GE expects to release the new wind turbine , which will be 300 feet tall and have a rotor diameter of 360 feet in 2012.
The company is also investing 453 million dollars to mass produce this turbine and you can use in offshore wind energy in Europe.
The turbine will be capable of 4 MW of generation, which is not impressive compared with the 10 MW under construction in Norway, but if you have two significant changes in design: the drivetrain is much more simple and efficient (which make better use of each wind hits the blades), and have longer blades and 40% lighter, which can be moved with less strong winds.
